The evaluation of white rot fungi in the decoloration of textile dyes

چکیده
Of the five species of white rot fungi evaluated for their ability to decolorize Amaranth, Remazol Black B, Remazol Orange, Remazol Brilliant Blue, Reactive Blue, and Tropaeolin O in agar plates, Bjerkandera sp. BOS55, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, and Trametes versicolor displayed the greatest extent of decoloration. In static aqueous culture, the three cultures formed fungal mats which did not decolorize any dye beyond some mycelial sorption. When agitated at 200 rpm, the biomass grew as mycelial pellets. Bjerkandera sp. BOS55 pellets decolorized only Amaranth, Remazol Black B, and Remazol Orange. P. chrysosporium and T. versicolor pellets were capable of decolorizing most dyes with decoloration by T. versicolor being several times more rapid. Batch cultures of Bjerkandera sp. BOS55 and P. chrysosporium had a limited ability to decolorize repeated dye additions; however, T. versicolor rapidly decolorized repeated additions of the different dyes and dye mixtures without any visual sorption of any dye to the pellets. The choice of buffer had a profound effect on pH stability upon dye addition, and consequently, decoloration. The use of 2,29-dimethylsuccinic acid allowed for excellent pH control and resulted in high decoloration ability. © 1999 Elsevier Science Inc.

Efficiency of white-rot fungi-Stereum ostrea (S. ostrea) as a test culture and Phanerochaete chrysosporium (P. chrysosporium) as a reference culture in colour removal from a textile dye, Remazol brilliant blue-19 (RBB-19) in medium was compared in this study. S. ostrea was more efficient than P. chrysosporium in decoloration process. Different parameters pH, temperature, sources of carbon and n...
متن کاملFactors governing performance of continuous fungal reactor during non-sterile operation--the case of a membrane bioreactor treating textile wastewater.
White-rot fungi, unlike bacteria in conventional activated sludge system, can degrade wide varieties of textile dyes. Their large scale implementation, however, has been impeded due to lack of appropriate reactor system that can sustain stable performance under non-sterile environment. In this study, contrary to virtually complete decoloration of an azo dye (Acid Orange II, 100 mg L(-1)) in pur...

Lignin degrading white rot fungi, Schizophyllum commune and Lenzites eximia were collected from the living tree of Tramarindus indica and burnt tree respectively from the Western Ghats region of Tamil Nadu, India. The fungi were used for the decolourization of azo dyes such as congored, methylorange, erichrome blackT and also for decolourization of the dye industry effluents. Removal of azo dye...
